FEMISE Network
The FEMISE network includes more than 60 members (Institute of Economic Research), representing the 37 partners of the Barcelona Process.[/lang_en]
Supported, since 1997, by the European Commission within the regional framework of MEDA, FEMISE is co-hosted by the Institute of the Mediterranean (France) and the Economic Research Forum (Egypt).
Renewed by the European Community for 4 years since November 2005, FEMISE was transformed to become an association of French law in 1901 and pursues 3 main objectives :
- to participate in the strengthening of the dialogue on economic and trade partnership, particularly between the FEMISE member institutes, officials of ministries of the Mediterranean partner countries and representatives of the Commission,
- to identify and track the Mediterranean partner countries in their transition and openness, particularly as regards to the free trade zone and the cooperation of South / South,
- to amplify economic research on priority issues for the Partnership.
One of the main activities of the network is to conduct research on socio-economic subjects identified as priorities for the future of the Euro-Mediterranean region. The different results are presented to government partners of the Barcelona Process. Among these broad subjects we will include
- The agricultural issue,
- The development and treatment of poverty
- The policy of health and work
- The education, training and role of women in society
- The integration and cooperation among countries of the southern Mediterranean,
- The role of the state.
